S P O R T S

PETALING JAYA: Selangor's Nadya Izzati Noor Azman nailed her first SportExcel-Milo-NSC National Junior Bowling Circuit title at the Ampang Superbowl in Ipoh yesterday.

Future stars: Nadya Izzati Noor Azman (left) and Mohd Amin Abdul Razak are all smiles after winning the girls' and boys' titles in the third leg of the SportExcel- NSC Milo National Junior Circuit in Ipoh yesterday.

The 17-year-old national youth bowler defeated top seed Syaidatul Afifah Hamidi of Perak with a total two-game score of 347-339 in the final.

Future stars: Nadya Izzati Noor Azman (left) and Mohd Amin Abdul Razak are all smiles after winning the girls' and boys' titles in the third leg of the SportExcel- NSC Milo National Junior Circuit in Ipoh yesterday.

In the first game, Nadya bowled slightly better than Syaidatul for a 178-160 win. In the second game, she was beaten 169-179 but won on total pinfalls over two games.

Nadya's win ensured Perak's title drought in the girls' event in the circuit continued.

In the first two legs in Selangor and Kedah-Penang, the winners were Nor Amilia Mohd Nor of Selangor and Nur Diana Hussin of Kuala Lumpur respectively.

Meanwhile, Perak certainly got it right in the boys' competition when Mohd Amin Abdul Razak bagged his second consecutive circuit title after beating Mohd Shafiq Hashim of Selangor 450-384.

The fourth leg will be held in Terengganu this month at the Sukma (Malaysia Games) venue in the Main Stadium in Gong Badak. *Please take note that the next leg will be in Pahang from May 9-11*

PERAK LEG - 4TH DAY RESULTS

It was a very exciting day today during the knockout round of all the categories. I can say that all participants were each other's neck when it came to the last few frames that determined who was the winner.

Under 12 Champions
Natasha Roslan (SEL) and Ahmad Aidil (KUL)

But, before the knockout round, our young Under-12 top 12 bowlers played their masters round of 6 games; their total brought forward from the day before. It was a close fight in the boys category when Mohd Hafiz Fikri took over the lead from Ahmad Aidil after a massive 226 in the 5th game. However, in the 6th game Ahmad Aidil kept a steady composure to score 171 while Hafiz only managed a 121. The girls category was a different scenario altogether. Natasha Roslan was to good for the others when she outclass all the other bowlers and won by a margin of 134 pins from her teammate Ayra. Ayra shot a 199 in the last game to climb up from 3rd position to 2nd.

Boys Open Champion
Muhd Amin (PRK) won back to back titles

Back to the news about the knockout round. All categories bowled their quarter finals together over 32 lanes. Then the winners rest for 30 minutes while the lane dressing took place. In the semi finals of the Boys Open Category, Mohd Shafiq Hashim from Selangor had strong and LOUD Selangor supporters behind him when going against Mohd Amirul Afif of Kuala Lumpur. With the crowd cheering him on, he won the match to go on to the finals meeting Muhd Amin of Perak who was the champion in the previous leg. He was no match for Muhd Amin when he only scored a total of 391 pinfalls compared to Amin's 450. Amin also had the local crowd rooting him on, although not as loud as Selangor but he was very comfortable on his training ground.

Girls Open Champion
Nadya Izzati (SEL)

In the Girls Open Category, top seeded going into the knock-out round Syaidatul Afifah of Perak lost to Nadya Izzati of Selangor in the finals. She was the favorite to win when only 11 Girls Open took part. Afifah had to spare in the last frame but her ball which was a solid pocket resulted in a split. Hard luck for her but congrats to Nadya with her first title of the year.

Graded Champions
Nursyamimi (PRK) and Mohd Amirul (KED)

It was an all Perak final in the Girls Graded Category when SUKMA trainee Nursyamimi took on young Ainaa Khairina. Nursyamimi won with a score of 321 against 298.

Mohd Amirul of Kedah who missed out on the title of Boys Graded Champion in the Kedah Leg, received the title of Perak Leg Boys Graded Champion when he ousted Mohd Shahril Afifie of Pahang in the finals.

You can get the results of the U-12 Masters Final and the Knock-out Round in the Download Box. The photos will be posted soon.

Congratulations to all the winners. We shall see all of you in Kuantan for the Pahang Leg on May 9.

PERAK LEG - 2ND DAY RESULTS

Boys Graded Round 1 Leader
Mohd Aizudeen Mustaqim (SEL)

The 2nd day of the Perak Leg was exhausting for us, the organizers. Nevertheless, everything went smoothly and finished on time.

The day started with 22 Boys Graded bowlers from Penang, Pahang, Melaka and half of the Negeri Sembilan bowlers took to the lanes. Farhan Afiz from team MSSM Negeri Sembilan stole the show and lead after 8 games with an average of 192.38, coming out 2nd after Mohd Zafiq Syaddiq.

Girls Graded Round 1 Third
Sonia Teoh (MEL)

Boys Graded Round 1 Third
Farhan Afiz Abas (NSE)

Then it was time for the Girls Graded to strut their stuff. Sonia Teoh of Melaka quickly took the lead and never looked back from game 1 onwards. She finished tops in her squad but overall was third behind Nursyamimi and Nur Farah Asyiqin from Perak.

After the Top 28 girls graded was determined, the final squad of Boys Graded bowlers blazed the lanes. Mohd Aizudeen Mustaqim of Selangor adapted to the lanes quickly to bowl four 200++ games in a row in Games 2-5. He had a minor setback in Game 6 but quickly bounced back with a moderate 179 in Game 7. For the last game, he had to bowl a score of 181 and above to grab the lead from Mohd Zafiq Syaddiq of Perak and he scored a 192! Nice bowling Aizudeen!

Congratulations to all the qualifiers, Top 28 girls and Top 48 boys. You still have 6 more games to go tomorrow so get enough rest!

The Open bowlers will begin their campaign at 9am tomorrow morning. Here are today's results:-

PERAK LEG - 1ST DAY RESULTS

Nursyamimi and Mohd Zafiq Syaddiq

The Perak Leg this year received more than 270 participants, the most entries so far in the SportExcel Circuit. We received very good response from the home state bowlers and today, all the Perak graded bowlers put on their best show. Because of the massive response from Perak, we had to allocate an extra squad just for them.

Perak Graded Team

After 8 games, Nursyamimi and Mohd Zafiq Shaddiq came out tops of the pack. Currently they are the leaders but watch out for tomorrow when the other states come down to the lanes. Will they be able to maintain as leaders or will their top spot be taken over by another bowler? Visit this site tomorrow to know the answer!
