GP FINALS - FINAL RESULTS

Grand Prix Finals Champions

The Under 12 Masters Finals was held this morning and Sabah made a clean sweep of the 2 inaugural titles offered. Ahmad Fawwaz and Stefira Zeandea Greater, both being coached under Sabah Chief Coach, Mr. Ricky Loh was excited and happy when they got to know that they won. Mr. Ricky Loh when asked said "DOUBLE GOOD!" with 2 thumbs up!

Ricky Loh was so happy!

Fawwaz who has been bowling for 3 years came with high expectations. Going into the last game, Fawwaz was only leading by 1 pin from Muhd Hareez of Melaka and Jason Syow (MEL) and Ahmad Azraei (SAB) by 3 pins. In the last game, Fawwaz successfully connected strikes and finished with a 190 to seal the deal.

Steffira on the other hand came to Kuantan with hopes to finish in the top 3 and she did that plus an extra bonus of being the CHAMPION. She said "Natasha was my biggest opponent. I didn't expect to win but I'm very happy with my performance!". Steffira also won the gold medals in the MSSM Under-12 Singles and Masters.

Both bowlers were hoisted by their coach, praised by their parents and patted on the backs by their supporters.

Open Champs with their trophies and Challenge Trophies

Boys Open was won by Muhd Amsyar from Perak. Amsyar was excited and said that he didn't expect the win at all. He was just playing his own game without any pressure. This is Amsyar's maiden title and it's a boost for him as he has plans to represent Malaysia and some day become a World Champion. He thanked his family, his coach En. Khairul Faizi and his friends for support. His journey to glory are as follows :-

Quarter Finals : Beat Muhd Fazrin (PRK) 346 - 343
Semi Finals : Beat Muhd Amin (PRK) 395 - 359

Cheryl Cheong who won the SUKMA Masters Gold Medal finally nailed it after being bridesmaid for 3 legs before this. She beat Farah Izzazaya of the home state of Pahang 332 - 322. This Form 5 student from Sek. Sukan Bukit Jalil has been bowling 9 years and is an ex-nationaly youth bowler. She came into the GP Finals in hopes of being the top 4 and she did it. She said "I was very nervous in the finals agaist Farah and managed to only score 136 in my first game. But I didn't give up and with the guidance of my coach and support from my friends, I succeeded in stringing strikes and picking up my spares."

Graded Champs Nor Syazana (PRK) and Shaun Chan (SEL)

The Boys Graded category was where the excitement was especially in the semi-finals. Champion Shaun Chan from Selangor faced Muhd Shahril Afifie from Pahang in his semi-finals. Shaun and his fellow Selangor supporters thought that he had won after Afifie had a huge 4-7-10 split in his bonus frame but amazingly, Afifie converter that spare and had to strike in order to win by 1 pin. He struck only 9 and that left them both with a total of 369. With that, both bowlers had to bowl 1 extra ball and the bowler who got a higher pin count will win. Shaun bowled first and only got an 8 pincount. Pahang was excited because Afifie had to bowl 9 pins or strike to win. Unfortunately, he also got an 8 pincount. They were still tied and had to bowl another ball. This time, Afifie whent first and still, got an 8. Shaun composed himself and threw his ball. HE STRIKED and his supporters went berserk! He was through to his first finals. In the finals, he bowled confidently and beat Melaka Leg champion Abdul Basit 379 - 294. The GP Finals crown is this south-pawed bowler's maiden title and he will remember it for years to come.

As expected, top-seed Norsyazana Rusli from Perak entered the finals beating Farzana Ibrahim (SWK) 413-265 in the quarter-finals, Sonia Teoh (MEL) 390-352 in the semi-finals and Nur Shahira (KUL) 378-342 in the finals. This form 2 student who won the KL Leg and Melaka Leg titles said, "Of all the girls here, I was afraid of Nur Shahira as went she's on form, she's ON FORM. Luckily for me, I succeeded in telling myself to relax and just focus on my game. I'm very very happy with my performance and my win especially in the GP Finals."

The inaugural Tunku Imran Cup State Champion was won by the state of Perak with their bowlers collecting the most points in the Knock-out Round. With Norsyazana and Muhd Amsyar claiming the titles of Girls Graded and Boys Open, they already had 310 points in the bag. They actually sealed the win after the semi-finals matches were over.

KL LEG - FINAL DAY RESULTS

The KL Leg which is the 7th Leg in the SportExcel Junior Circuit this year finished with a bang with Perak and Selangor taking 2 titles each, Negeri Sembilan one and K.Lumpur one.

The two titles won by Selangor was in the Under-12 categories when Natasha Roslan and Wan Nadzmi Fikri tamed the field to win the 4th and final leg of the Under-12 circuit.

Under-12 Champs Natasha Roslan and Wan Nadzmi Fikri from Selangor

For Natasha, this is her 4th consecutive title making her the only GOLD MEDALIST in the Girls Under-12 category throughout the 4 legs (Perak, Pahang, Johor, KL). Natasha also won the MSSM Girls Under-12 All-Events and Masters Gold Medal which was held in Ipoh in May. Her success in the 4 legs of the Junior Circuit makes her the top qualifier for the GP Finals which will be held in Megalanes Kuantan at the end of this month. She is the favorite to win the GP Finals title with her string of successes this year.

The Boys Under-12 title was won by Wan Nadzmi Fikri with a huge margin of 125 pins from the 1st runner up. This is Fikri's 2nd consecutive title as he also won the 3rd leg in Johor last month. Wan Nadzmi Fikri overcame a bleeding thumb to emerged as the best Boys Under-12 bowler in KL.

There was oohs and aahs in the Negeri Sembilan camp when their pint sized Muhd Nur Helmi won the High Game award with an amazing score of 266 beating the hi-game scores of all the other categories.

Autograph signing by Adrian Ang, Aaron Kong, Syafiq Ridhwan and Muhd Nur Aiman, World Youth Team Gold Medalist

The prize giving presentation for the Under-12 was held directly after the masters finished and the ceremony hyped up with the presence of the World Youth Team Champions, Adrian Ang, Aaron Kong, Muhd Nur Aiman and Syafiq Ridhwan. The 4 of them gave away the prizes to the winners and later had an autograph signing session. The kids were excited and thrilled to have their idols present.

Under-12 Medal Winners with National Team

Open Champs
Mohd Amirrul Afif (KUL) dan Syaidatul Afifah (PRK)

Perak got their 2 titles from the outstanding efforts of Syaidatul Afifah in the Girls Open Category and Norsyazana Rusli in the Girls Graded Category. Syaidatul beat Cheryl Cheong, the top seed going into the Knock-Out round, 438-410. Syaidatul, a Form 5 student in SMK Gunung Rapat who won 3 silvers and 2 bronze in SUKMA TERENGGANU recently said "I didn't expect to win as I've not been training after the SUKMA to concentrate on my studies. It was a hard fought battle but alhamdullilah, my strikes kicked in when I needed them most.".

Graded Champs
Mohd Hazwan (NSE) and Norsyazana (PRK)

Norsyazana Rusli was overjoyed with her win as in the previous legs, she always fell short losing either in the semi-finals or in the finals. "AKHIRNYA!" was the exact words expressed by Syazana who has been bowling for 4 years under the guidance of En. Khairul Faizi. In the previous leg held in Seremban, she was in tears, losing in the Finals by only 2 pins in a 1 ball roll-off tiebreaker. The silver medal was won by Nur Azlin from Sekolah Sukan Bandar Penawar.

Mohd Amirrul Afif bowling on his training grounds toppled fellow team mate Yusof Abdul Raof in the final 410-376 to make this his 2nd SportExcel title this year. Amirrul who was a member of the KL trios who won the Bronze medalists in the SUKMA Games is currently leading the GP Ranking Points in the Boys Open Category.

Negeri Sembilan bowlers did extremely well this leg to have 3 of their Boys Graded bowlers qualify for the Top 8 Knock-Out Round. These 3 bowlers subsequently qualified for the Semi Finals as well. Out of this 3 bowlers, Mohd Hazwan who has not finished in the Top 8 in his career was the most successful receiving the title BOYS GRADED CHAMPION. Mohd Hazwan who is coached by Mr. Jonathan Chung and Ahmad Fadhil has been bowling for 4 years and is currently a Form 2 student in SMK Dato' Sheikh Ahmad in Seremban. This is his maiden win after 4 years of training. He will be taking part in the next leg in Melaka from August 15-17 to try to qualify for the Grand Prix Finals.
