WYC 2010 - Our Girls marches on - Semi-Finals, Here We Come

Malaysia's young bowlers continued to march on at the World Youth Championships 2010 at Tali Bowl, Helsinki, Finland.

In today's Team 2nd block of 3 games bowling on 44 feet long oiling pattern, Sin Li Jane shouldered Team Malaysia to qualify for the Semi-Finals of the Team event.

As a gutsy anchor-lady, Li Jane was instrumental in consolidating her team mates in check game after game. In this morning's 1st game, Siti Safiyah started off with 186, followed by Fatin on 231, Jacqueline on 178 and Li Jane at par 200 for a team's total of 795. Team Malaysia's position dropped two rungs to 3rd place.

In the 2nd game, Siti came off with 179, Fatin struggled with 156, Jacqueline covered up with 211 while Li Jane blazed home with 237 for a sub par 783 total and remained on 3rd position. Close on our heels were teams from England (4th); Colombia (5th) and Latvia (6th).

In the final game, it was neck to neck race between Team Malaysia. Team England, Team Colombia and Team Latvia.

Malaysian team officials regrouped our bowlers together and words of encouragement were transcended to our girls prior to the finale. Started off with a 9 spare, anchor-lady, Li Jane had the ferocious Malaysian supporters/staff from our Malaysian Embassy including our H.E. Ambassador, Mr. Cheah Choong Kit cheering enthusiastically as she reeled seven consecutive strikes and stormed home with an identical 237 game. Siti improved her game with 202, Fatin bowled 172 while Jacqueline finished with 187 for the team's total of 798.

Team Malaysia emerged 3rd placing with a combined series of 4844; Team Korea overtook leader Singapore with 5024; Singapore in 2nd place with 4971; England in 4th with 4774 whilst Latvia missed the Semi-Finals spot by 4 mere pins with 4770.

The Semi-Finals matches are scheduled at 09:00am Saturday July 31, 2010 with 1st seed Korea vs 4th seed England and 2nd seed Singapore vs 3rd seed Malaysia.

Our Malaysian Boys would be in action later this afternoon at 5:00pm local time for the Team's 2nd Block of 3 games.

WYC 2010 - Cheers for Team Malaysia Girls

Defying the odds, our young Malaysian girls caught the audience attention when our team stormed home in the last game to pip arch-rivals and favorites to take the pole position.

Bowling the Team of Four (1st block) event, our young Malaysian girls produced a commendable performance. Starting the first game on Lane 28, Team Malaysia cruised towards a clean game path till the 8th frame when lead role, Siti Safiyah encountered a 8 split opened frame. However, Siti managed to steer home with 202 game, Fatin Syazliana strike-out for a 221 game, Jacqueline Sijore responded with 206 game while anchor-lady, Sin Li Jane suffered a last frame split to end on 196 game for a inspiring 825 total to place 6th.

Our girls team continued their momentum in their second game as each bowler was repeating their shots. A turbulence in the 8th frame resulted in opened frame for all our girls. Siti lost her focus to end her game on 184; Fatin missed a single pin spare to finish on 167; Jacqueline bowled 192 game whilst Li Jane carried the team on her shoulder with 7 consecutive strikes to end on 239 game. Our team's score of 782 and combined total of 1607 managed to hang on 5th position.

In the 3rd game, Siti Sifiyah was all fired up, reeling 3 consecutive strikes, followed by a spare and another 4 consecutive strikes for a remarkable 246 game. Fatin recovered from her blues to storm home for a 217 game; Jacqueline suffered a hiccup to end on 171 game. Sin Li Jane was instrumental as anchor lady as she blazed the lanes with another creditable game of 227 to escalate our team's total to 861 pinfalls. In this tight race, Jane's last frame strike out propelled Team Malaysia to leap-frog over the favorites and took the pole position in this 1st block of 3 games.

An elated anchor-lady, Li Jane was hugged by team-mates, without realising that our team has took over the lead. "I just stayed focussed and repeat the shots on my game; thanks to the good guidance from my coaches, Foong & Azidi and motivational support provided by our psychologist, Peck Ngor' said Li Jane.

The vocal support from our Embassy staff as well as the presence of our H.E. Ambassador watching from behind and cheering our team paid dividends.

The Team Boys' event shall commence at 1:00pm later today.

WYC 2010 - Syimir & Aris in 2nd place after 2 squads

It was a roaring phenomenon as our young Malaysian Harimau bowlers made their presence felt at Tali Bowl this afternoon.

Bowling in Squad 2, Aris Ardilla and perfect game achiever, Syimir Abdul Razak caught the attention of the capacity crowd with their scintillating performances.
Back by an equally ferocious supporters from team members and staff of our Malaysian Embassy, Aris & Syimir duly responded by rising to the occasion with their immaculate shots.

Syimir started off with a sub-par 183 game but rebounded with lines of 213, 212, 230, 266 & 220 for a 1324 total. Equally impressive was Aris Ardilla as he reeled 206, 204, 212, 208, 214 and stormed home with a magnificient 270 game for a 1314 6-game series. Their combined total of 2638 earned them the pole position in this squad and emerged 2nd place after 2 squads combined. The 3rd squad shall bowled at 5:00pm later.

Barring any upset, our pair of Aris & Syimir shall make it to the Semi-Finals tonight, schedule to bowl at 8:30pm local time.

Earlier in the morning, it was a "Ying-Yang" performance by our 1st pair in the Boys' Doubles event this morning. Khoo Beng Khai and Yusuf Abdul Raof started off cautiously with 203 and 201 games respectively. Beng Khai picked up his momentum to reel subsequent lines of 212, 226, 212, 227 & 224 for an commendable 1304 total, averaged 218. However, Yusuf could not lift up his game and bowled 174, 201, 175, 150 & 165 for a poor 1066 total. The duo's combined total of 2370 earned them a 13th placing in the squad.

Raylin and Sufyan wins U-12 Titles in Sabah Leg

Top 4 Boys and Girls Graded Winners.

In a different setting from the normal format of the National Tenpin Bowling Circuit being held in East Malaysia, Raylin Ang beat Gillian Lim of Miri to win her second under 12 titles. Raylin was placed second after bowling two blocks of six games with an average of 170 while Gillian had 162 average.

Gillian who was placed fourth after the 12 games roll off had to meet the top seed Ellysha Syafeena of Kuching in a best of 3 games which was won by Gillian while Raylin beat the second seed beat Siti Nur Aisyah of Sabah to set up a final between Gillian and her which was won by Raylin.

In the boys under 12, Mohd Sufyan Ismail Hafiz of Sabah who was seeded second beat Abang Afiq Yazid of Sarawak while fourth seeded Alexis O’Neil of Kuching beat top seed Daniel Fareez Japar of Sabah to claim a spot in the finals against Mohd Sufyan Ismail Hafiz.

In the best of 3 games final, Mohd Sufyan easily dispose of Alexis O’ Neil 135 -110 and 179 – 175 to win his first title in the under 12 boys division for Sabah.

Christopher Tiong of Sibu, Sarawak stunned the more illustrious to claim the top spot in the boys graded division after the first block of 8 games with a total of 1559 pinfalls to average 194 in the 36 feet oiling pattern and looks good for a place in the finals.

Adri Shahri Santosoh of Miri bowled consistently to take the second spot with a total of 1532 pinfalls ahead of Mohd Khalid from Kuching with 1516 pinfalls while Ervin Lim had up and down games to settle for fourth spot with 1498 pinfalls.
